The Kuari Pass Trek is one of those Himalayan routes where the journey matters as much as reaching the pass. Known as Lord Curzon’s Trail, it takes you through the Garhwal Himalayas with a changing landscape of oak and conifer forests, open meadows, mountain villages and high ridgelines.
We start around the Joshimath–Dhak side and gradually gain height, giving you time to settle into the rhythm of trekking. As you move towards Khullara and the alpine meadows, the views open dramatically towards peaks including Nanda Devi, Dronagiri, Chaukhamba and Kamet. The final approach to Kuari Pass brings you into a more exposed Himalayan landscape, where the mountains feel much closer.
Depending on the season and route, you may walk through green bugyals or snow-covered trails. The combination of forests, camps, open ridges and big Himalayan views makes this a rewarding Kuari Pass trek for travellers who want more than a straightforward summit-style adventure.

📍 Kuari Pass Places We’ll Take You To
Dhak Village: The trek begins around the Dhak–Karchi area, where the road gives way to mountain trails. Walking through terraced slopes and traditional Himalayan settlements gives you an immediate sense of the landscape and local life.
Guling: Guling is a quieter mountain stop on the trail, surrounded by forests and mountain slopes. It makes a natural camping point as you gradually move higher and leave the lower villages behind.
Khullara: Khullara is an important campsite on the Kuari Pass route, sitting close to the open alpine terrain. From here, the landscape becomes more expansive, with forested slopes giving way to meadows and Himalayan viewpoints.
Tali Forest Camp: Tali offers a peaceful forest setting surrounded by Himalayan terrain. The camp is particularly enjoyable in the evening, when the trail becomes quiet and the forest creates a completely different atmosphere from the exposed ridges higher up.
Kuari Pass: The main objective of the trek, Kuari Pass reaches about 3,815 metres. From the pass, you get expansive Himalayan views and a strong sense of crossing through the high mountain landscape rather than simply climbing to a summit.
Gorson Bugyal: The wide alpine meadows around Gorson are one of the highlights of the wider Auli–Kuari Pass landscape. The open grassland provides excellent mountain views and changes character dramatically between summer greenery and winter snow.
Auli: The trek connects naturally with Auli, one of Uttarakhand’s best-known mountain destinations. Surrounded by oak and conifer forests, Auli offers broad views towards Nanda Devi and other Himalayan peaks and is especially popular for snow activities in winter.
